HC Deb 23 November 1937 vol 329 cc1064-5W
Mr. R. Gibson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many Arabs are now in prison at concentration camps in Palestine; and how many of these have been tried and found guilty of crimes?

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

At the beginning of November there were 520 persons detained under the Emergency Regulations, of whom 360 were in the concentration camp at Acre, and the remainder in gaols or lock-ups throughout the country. I am unable to state how many of these persons were Arabs. As these are cases of preventive detention, no question of trial or conviction arises.
