HC Deb 18 November 1937 vol 329 cc587-8W
Mr. De la Bère

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will consider facilitating an increased acreage of potatoes with a view to ear-marking the increased acreage specifically for supplying potatoes to a suitable factory for the manufacture of feeding-meal for pigs, and with a view to providing a suitable supply of home-grown feeding-stuffs?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

The problem of finding additional outlets for home- grown potatoes is essentially one for consideration by the Potato Marketing Board; but it will be apparent that producers would need to be satisfied that they would receive a remunerative price for any potatoes grown expressly for manufacture. In this connection, I understand that the Board are co-operating in a factory experiment into the economic possibilities of drying potatoes for use as feeling stuffs.
