HC Deb 18 November 1937 vol 329 c588W
Mr. Joel

asked the Minister of Agriculture how many acres of land during the last three years have been acquired by the Commissioners of Crown Lands, either by private purchase or in payment of Death Duties; and whether he can give the acreage in each county concerned?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

Since the 1st April, 1934, the Commissioners of Crown Lands have acquired no land in payment of Death Duties. The following areas have, however, been acquired by private purchase:

County. Acreage.
Bedford 2,122
Buckingham 5
Cambridge 78
Gloucester 7
Lancaster 2
Northampton 202
Surrey 227
Warwick 3,903
The Bedford and Warwick purchases were newly acquired estates, and the smaller purchases were extensions of previously existing estates.
