HC Deb 11 November 1937 vol 328 c1859W
Sir A. Wilson

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether he will consult with the grants committee for physical training and recreation, with a view to their making grants of money for playing grounds and fields, and other forms of physical training and recreation conditional on an undertaking that they will be available for use after a stated hour on Sundays, in order that the fullest use may be made of them during the customary hours of leisure?

Mr. Lindsay

While in general it would be agreed that full use should be made of all facilities aided by grants under the Physical Training and Recreation Act, the Grants Committee take the view, with which my Noble Friend concurs, that the question of making such facilities available for use on Sundays should be left to the discretion of the local body responsible for them.
