HC Deb 11 November 1937 vol 328 c1875W
Sir R. Rankin

asked the Postmaster-General what is the present approximate annual cost of the Empire broadcasting service; and what contributions towards the cost are received from any of the Dominions or Colonies?

Sir W. Womersley

On the first part of the question, I am in communication with the British Broadcasting Corporation and will write to my hon. Friend. No contribution towards the cost is made by Dominion or Colonial Governments. In accordance with a recommendation of the Ullswater Committee, the Empire service is recognised as a normal function of the broadcasting organisation in this country; and provision is made for it in the present Charter and Licence of the British Broadcasting Corporation.
