asked the Minister of Health whether he can state the number of rural dwelling-houses which have been reconditioned under the Rural Workers Housing Act since its operation in the counties of Staffordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire, and Warwickshire, respectively; and also the total amount of grant paid in those counties for each year?

The total number of houses reconditioned under the Housing (Rural Workers) Acts, 1926 and 1931, up to the 31st December, 1936, in each of the counties of Staffordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire was 76, 647, 405 and 153 respectively and the total amount of grant paid by the local authorities up to that date in those areas was £6,562, £59,359, £36,547 and £8,371 respectively. A statement showing the amount of grant paid in each year in each of the counties is being prepared and will be sent to the hon. Member.
