HC Deb 24 March 1937 vol 321 c2911W
Mr. Garro Jones

asked the Secretary of State for War what Departments are now concerned in the administration of civil employment training schemes for soldiers before and after discharge; and what part each Department plays in these schemes?

Mr. Cooper

During the coming financial year the existing Army Vocational Training Centres administered by the War Office will continue to train soldiers with a view to their obtaining civilian employment when they leave the Colours. In addition the Ministry of Labour will arrange for the training of a large number of soldiers, on discharge, for whom training could not be provided, before discharge, at an Army centre. From 1st April, 1938, the Ministry of Labour will be solely responsible for the vocational training of soldiers, after discharge from the Army.
