Captain Cazaletasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the Government are considering inviting naval officers from the other Powers taking part in the non-intervention measures off the coast of Spain to stay on board our ships while engaged on those duties?
§ Viscount CranborneNo, Sir. This is a matter for the Non-Intervention Committee.
§ Mr. Thorneasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can give the House any information in connection with Mr. Fraser, of the Board of Trade, visiting the officials of General Franco at Burgos; and whether Mr. Fraser saw the officials of the Spanish Government during the same visit to Spain?
§ Captain WallaceThe object of Mr. Fraser's visit was to discuss with representatives of General Franco's administration various questions of detail connected with the informal assurances obtained from them in regard to future trade between the United Kingdom and Spain, as described in the answer given by my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade, on 17th December last. These questions related only to trade with the area under the control of General Franco. Questions arising on trade with the area under the control of the Spanish Government can be (and in fact have been) discussed with the representatives of that Government in London.
