HC Deb 15 March 1937 vol 321 cc1656-7W
Mr. Lees-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether there are any international political considerations which prevent the elimination or revision of the policy pursued by this country of granting most-favoured-nation treatment to foreign countries?

Viscount Cranborne

So far as I am aware, the only international political consideration involved is the fact that the most-favoured-nation policy of His Majesty's Government is the one best calculated, in their view, to promote international trade and the stability and harmony of commercial relations. Both these are necessary factors in a policy of international appeasement.
