HC Deb 07 July 1937 vol 326 cc362-3W
Lieut.-Commander Tufnell

asked ,the Postmaster-General whether any changes have been made in his Department during the current year as regards the employment of a greater number of ex-service men; and, if so, of what nature?

Major Tryon

During the current year more than the normal number of ex-service men are securing situations in the Post Office, but this is due primarily to expansion of business and not to any change in our policy, under which a very large proportion of our vacancies are given to ex-service men. On the engineering side the Post Office is co-operating with the Service Departments and the Ministry of Labour in developing a training scheme which should have the effect of increasing the number of ex-service men admitted to the Post Office Engineering Department.
