HC Deb 04 February 1937 vol 319 c1802W
Mr. Pritt

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is in a position to announce measures for the protection of those living at Westway; and, in particular, what decision he has come to in regard to the imposition of a 30-miles-per-hour speed-limit?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

I have offered to the Hammersmith Borough Council, the responsible Highway Authority, grants for guard rails, traffic lights both vehicle and pedestrian operated, and if the council so desire, for subways or overhead bridges. Further, I await a proposal from the council for dual carriageways. I am giving immediate notice of my intention to impose a speed limit for a period of three months, in order that the council may have time to institute guard rails and traffic lights. I am informing the council accordingly.
