The following statement shows the numbers of houses which were under construction in England and Wales, respectively, at 31st October, 1937, the latest date for which figures are available, (a) by local housing authorities and (b) by private enterprise with State assistance.

* Owing to the pooling arrangements effected by the Housing Act, 1935, all houses now provided by a local housing authority share in any State assistance given to that authority in respect of their houses.
