HC Deb 12 April 1937 vol 322 cc630-1W
Major Carver

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether his information shows that in view of the higher prices for wheat British farmers are increasing the cultivation of cereals: and whether he can give any statistics on the subject?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

According to reports furnished by the Crop Reporters of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the area sown to wheat by the 1st January was estimated as approximately 3 per cent, greater than in the preceding year. I regret that no later or more precise information is available as to the area under cereals this year.
