HC Deb 20 November 1936 vol 317 cc2074-5W
Mr. T. MORRIS

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he can state the present position of the negotiations for the international regulation of the fishing industry, especially in Western European waters?

Mr. W. S. MORRISON

Arrangements have been made to hold a conference in London, beginning on 23rd November, to discuss an International Agreement for the regulation of the size of the mesh of sea fishing nets and of the sizes at which various kinds of sea fish may be landed and sold. Invitations were sent to the Governments of Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Irish Free State, Latvia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Soviet Russia. Acceptances have been received from all these countries except Latvia, Spain and Soviet Russia. The last-mentioned country has, however, asked for and been supplied with, further information on the subject.
