HC Deb 13 November 1936 vol 317 cc1215-6W
Mr. ERSKINE HILL

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Health, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, whether he will receive a deputation from sports organisations from the city of Edinburgh to consider whether further facilities might be given to the various youths' organisations of the city in the King's Park?

Mr. R. S. HUDSON (for the First Commissioner of Works)

My Noble Friend is not quite clear as to what further facilities it is suggested might be provided in the King's Park. The whole of the parade ground can at present be used for organised games every Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, and a certain area is reserved for the use of children every week-day during the football season. My Noble Friend will be glad to consider any proposals which the organisations care to put forward, but he suggests that the question of receiving a deputation might be deferred until he has had an opportunity of considering these proposals.

Mr. ERSKINE HILL

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Health, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, whether he is considering taking any steps to increase the facilities provided in the Royal parks throughout the country for the youths' organisations and to the general public who are anxious for football and cricket sites?

Mr. R. S. HUDSON (for the First Commissioner of Works)

The policy of allocating suitable sites in the Royal parks for organised games has been followed for many years, and my Noble Friend is advised that in the interests of the public as a whole it would not be possible to add to the number in the Royal parks.
