§ Mr. CAPEasked the President of the Board of Trade what action, if any, is intended to be taken to prevent the importation of pig-iron into this country of the grades that can be produced here?
§ Mr. RUNCIMANThere is at present a heavy demand for pig-iron owing to increased activity in the steel industry. Production in the United Kingdom is increasing and the rate of production now exceeds seven million tons a year. Imports amount only to some 100,000 tons a year. Any application for increased duties should, of course, be made to the Import Duties Advisory Committee.
