HL Deb 23 January 1936 vol 99 c374WA
LORD STRABOLGI

asked His Majesty's Government when it is proposed to lay a White Paper explaining their policy at the Naval Conference, and if they are aware of the precedent created in this respect at the 1930 Naval Conference in London?

THE UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (EARL STANHOPE)

While His Majesty's Government fully recognise the desirability of laying a White Paper on this subject at the appropriate time, they feel that it would not be in the public interest to take this action at the present moment. His Majesty's Government are aware that a White Paper was issued shortly after the opening of the London Naval Conference in 1930, but they do not regard its issue on that occasion as necessarily creating a good precedent for future conferences.

House adjourned at twenty minutes past five o'clock, except for Judicial Business, till Tuesday, February 4th next.
