HC Deb 02 December 1936 vol 318 cc1275-6W
Mr. R. BEAUMONT

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he is aware that since May, 1936, the appropriate staff association has sought to secure from the Board of Admiralty proposals regarding the future conditions of non-industrial women staffs in His Majesty's dockyards; and whether he now proposes to take any action in this matter?

Sir S. HOARE

I presume that my hon. Friend's question relates to certain lower grades, most of whom are at present temporary employees. The setting up of a permanent grade of sub-clerical employees, which would include these persons, is a complicated problem, and has been affected by a recent award of the Industrial Court. The question is, however, under consideration, and the representatives of the, staffs concerned will be taken into consultation as soon as possible.
