§ Sir J. SIMONThe number of on-licensed premises closed with compensation during 1934 was 305; in addition, the renewal of one publican's licence was refused without compensation. The number of new clubs registered during 1934 was 1,309. I should add that (according to provisional calculations) the net decrease in the number of on-licensed premises during that year was 426, and the net increase in the number of registered clubs was 358.
