HL Deb 19 December 1935 vol 99 cc353-4WA
THE MARQUESS OF LOTHIAN

asked His Majesty's Government whether their attention has been drawn to a letter from Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru published in the Manchester Guardian on December 10th contradicting a statement made in the Bengal Government's Administrative Report for 1933–1934 to the effect that during that year he had been engaged in seditious agitation under the cloak of untouchability activities and with money collected for work for the untouchables, and to ask whether this allegation can be substantiated and if not whether it cannot be withdrawn?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (THE MARQUESS OF ZETLAND)

I am asking or a report from the Government of Bengal.

House adjourned at five minutes past eight o'clock.
