§ Sir W. SUGDENasked the President of the Board of Trade why permission was granted for the use of the word "Empire" in the title of the company known as Empire Sweets, Limited (Reg. No. 282,223), and other companies, after permission had been refused in a similar application made in respect of Empire Collect (London) Limited, for a household invention in connection with Empire commodities?
§ Dr. BURGINThe use of the word "Empire" in the title "Empire Sweets, Limited" did not, in the opinion of the1390W Registrar, acting in accordance with the provsions of Section 17 (2) of the Companies Act, and having regard to the objects and the nature of the company, suggest connection with His Majesty's Government or a Department thereof. As regards Empire Collect, Limited, I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer which I gave him on 14th December last.
