HC Deb 30 November 1933 vol 283 c1068W
Lieut.-Colonel MOORE-BRABAZON

asked the Home Secretary what reply he has made to the petition sent him by Mr. P. D. McGuffie; and whether he will introduce legislation to amend the Bankruptcy Acts, with a view to mitigating the present economic distress amongst the farming community?

Sir J. GILMOUR

No communication has been received from Mr. McGuffie since 1929, when he was informed that the Home Secretary had no power to interfere in the matter of bankruptcy or any other civil proceedings. The question of amending the Bankruptcy Acts is one for the Board of Trade and not for the Home Office.
