Mr. Cyril D. Townsendasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs why there has been no reference to obtaining a political settlement in Cyprus in any Queen's Speech under the present Administration.
Mr. RifkindThe section on foreign policy in Her Majesty The Queen's Speech is always very brief. The lack of a reference to Cyprus in recent speeches reflects no lack of interest in the Cyprus problem. We continue to see the need for a solution to be found as soon as possible. We support the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General and stand ready to do anything that he considers might help.
