§ Mr. RHYS DAVIESasked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been called to the growing practice of withholding the names of certain London West End shops when prosecuting at the police courts for alleged thefts on their premises; and whether he will take steps to ensure that in future the name both of the accused and of the prosecutor is withheld or published in every case?
§ Sir J. GILMOUR:I am not aware of any such practice; on the contrary, inquiry in the police divisions where such cases mainly occur has failed to trace any instance in which the name of the shop has not been disclosed in court. It may 1792W be that the name is sometimes omitted in Press reports of the proceedings, but that is not a matter over which I have any control.
