HC Deb 20 July 1933 vol 280 cc2012-3W
Captain ERSKINE-BOLST

asked the Home Secretary how much money has yet been received under the Sunday Entertainments Act for the purposes of a National Film Institute?

Mr. BALDWIN

As the moneys paid into the "Cinematograph Fund" under the Sunday Entertainments Act, 1932, are under the direction and control of the Privy Council, I have been asked by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State to reply to this question. The amount received by the fund for the purposes specified in the Act is £698 14s. 8d. My hon. and gallant Friend appears to be under a misapprehension as to the purposes for which money received can be applied. The Act provides that the fund shall be applied in such manner as may be directed by the Privy Council for the purpose of encouraging the use and development of the cinematograph as a means of entertainment and instruction. The application of sums received is in no way restricted to payments to any specified body.
