HC Deb 21 December 1933 vol 284 c1500W
Mr. DAGGAR

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the fact that native agricultural wages in Kenya Colony have not increased since 1931 and that the rate of taxation has increased from 4s. to 12s. per head a hut, he will take steps to secure a considerable reduction in this taxation?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

The rate of taxation has remained unaltered since 1922, and at the present time, it would not be possible to effect any considerable reduction. The hon. Member is no doubt aware that the proportion of the native population which depends upon wage-earning for its tax money is relatively small.
