§ Mr. McENTEEasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has any information about the proposed action of 961W the French Government for the compulsory marking of foreign goods; and whether British manufacturers stamp their goods with the country of origin?
§ Mr. COLVILLEA French law, dated 20th April, 1932, empowers the French Government to issue decrees requiring such foreign goods as may be specified in the decrees to bear indications of their origin. So far as I am aware no such decrees have yet been issued. There is no legal requirement in this country that British manufacturers should stamp their goods with the country of origin but a number of countries require imported goods to bear indications of origin and British manufacturers supplying those markets must comply with these requirements.
