HC Deb 21 March 1932 vol 263 c716W
Mr. BOULTON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that manufacturers are being placed in difficulties in arranging for the extension of business and entering into contracts owing to the uncertainty of their position under the Abnormal Importations Duties Act, and particularly No. 1 Order, which expires in May; and if he has any information as to when the advisory committee is likely to make an announcement of policy?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

All duties imposed by Orders made under the Abnormal Importations Duties Act expire on 19th May. I do not know when the advisory committee are likely to present any recommendations to the Treasury, but I am satisfied that they have fully in mind the desirability of reducing the period of uncertainty as much as possible.
