HC Deb 17 June 1932 vol 267 c673W
Mr. PERKINS

asked the President of the Board of Trade, separately, the number of Swiss, German, French and Italian firms which have started manufacturing, or which have intimated that they are likely to start manufacturing in the next six months, in this country since we went off the Gold Standard?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

A record, which has been kept since November last, of proposals to set up new undertakings in this country by, or with the assistance of, foreign interests, shows that there have been 26 inquiries from Switzerland, 234 from Germany, 27 from France and eight from Italy, or a total of 295 from the countries referred to by my hon. Friend. Of these 295, production has commenced in 78 cases, of which two are Swiss, 65 German and 11 French. I have no information as to how many of the remaining cases are likely to commence production within the next six months.
