HC Deb 08 June 1932 vol 266 c1939W
Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the Home Secretary the reason for the increase from 5s. to 10s. in the cost of each copy of police reports in cases of road accidents; and whether he will consider requesting police authorities to supply copies at the old rate of 5s. to persons insured under the National Health Insurance scheme?

Sir H. SAMUEL

In approving the increase of the fee to 10s. (2s. 6d. in cases where certain limited particulars are furnished), the consideration I had chiefly in mind was the amount of clerical and other work involved in the supply of the information. I regret I am unable to adopt the suggestion in the latter part of the question, but chief officers of police will still have a discretion to waive or reduce the amount of the fee in all suitable cases, particularly in cases where the full charge would involve hardship.
