HC Deb 06 July 1932 vol 268 cc452-3W
Mr. DUCKWORTH

asked the Minister of Labour the total number of cases dealt with by the Shrewsbury Public Assistance Committee under the means test to the latest available date; in how many cases have full benefits been allowed; in how many cases partial benefits; and how many applicants have been disallowed benefits?

Mr. HUDSON

Between 12th November, 1931, and 4th June, 1932, 1,180 initial applications for transitional payments, and 1,967 renewals were referred to the Shrewsbury Public Assistance Committee. Out of the total of 3,147 determinations given, payment was allowed at maximum benefit rates in 1,099 cases, and in 1,605 at lower rates, while in 443 cases the needs of applicants were held not to justify payment being made.
