HC Deb 05 July 1932 vol 268 cc265-6W
Mr. WALLACE

asked the President of the Board of Trade the value of goods exported from this country to Czechoslovakia from 1st January to 30th April, 1932, and from 1st May, 1932, to the latest date for which figures are available; and the value of goods imported from Czechoslovakia for the same periods?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

The aggregate value of the trade with individual countries is compiled for calendar years and quarterly periods only. The total declared value of merchandise imported into the United Kingdom and registered during the three months ended 31st March, 1922, as consigned from Czechoslovakia was £839,000, while the total exports consigned to Czechoslovakia amounted to £389,000, including re-exports valued at £40,000. These particulars take no account of the indirect trade, which is believed to be considerable.

Mr. E. C. GRENFELL

asked the President of the Board of Trade. the figures of the exports and imports between Czechoslovakia and this country for the first four months of this year; and whether, in view of the favourable balance of trade to Czechoslovakia, he will take steps to ensure that the export of goods of British manufacture to that State, and their payment, is facilitated in every way?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

As regard the first part of the question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given today to my hon. Friend the Member for Dunfermline (Mr. Wallace), a copy of which I am sending him. As regards the latter part of the question, His Majesty's Government have made and will continue to make every possible effort to secure the objects mentioned.
