HC Deb 04 July 1932 vol 268 cc45-6W

asked the Minister of. Labour the number of unemployed persons registered at the Acton Employment Exchange in the last week of May, 1931, and May, 1932; and whether the licensing of about 100 German workers to work in factories in Northern Acton has effected any improvement in the number of British workpeople employed in the district?

At 18th May, 1931, there were 2,618 unemployed persons on the registers of the Acton Employment Exchange, And 4,006 at 23rd May, 1932. The employment of alien labour is principally in establishments outside the area of the Acton Employment Exchange. There is no reason to doubt that the ad- mission of these aliens has provided employment for some hundreds of British workpeople, but exact statistics are not available.
