Mr. PRICEasked the Minister of Health what steps he is taking to implement the recommendations of the Report of the Departmental Committee on the Casual Poor?
Sir H. YOUNGI am sending the hon. Member copies of the circulars addressed to local authorities responsible for the administration of the relief of the casual poor since the publi- 1845W cation of the report of the Departmental Committee, together with a copy of the Public Assistance (Casual Poor) Order, 1931. These authorities were informed, through their representative associations, that the present financial stringency did, not justify the postponement of expenditure necessary to bring casual ward accommodation up to a reasonably satisfactory standard, due regard being paid to economical methods of construction.
