HC Deb 04 February 1932 vol 261 cc271-2W
Mr. SMEDLEY CROOKE

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he has considered the advisability of placing a tariff on imported bacon, other than Empire produced, coupled with the admission, free of duty, on a diminishing quota system, under veterinary inspection, of carcasses for curing, to prevent any exceptional rise in prices until such time as the pig population in England is sufficient to meet all the requirements of the home trade; and if he is aware that such a procedure would tend to employ additional workers in English bacon-curing factories and lead to a revival in the English pig-breeding industry?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I cannot anticipate the announcement of the Government's agricultural policy.
