HC Deb 09 March 1931 vol 249 c820W
Sir N. GRATTAN-DOYLE

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he has any information concerning the protest made by French gilders against the new Indian tariff rates; whether any approach in this matter has been made by the French Government to the Government of India; and, if so, what has been the reply?

Mr. BENN

No official representations have been received by His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom from the French Government protesting against the protective duties imposed by the Indian Gold Thread Industry (Protection) Act, 1931, and so far as I am aware the answer to the second part of the question is in the negative.
