Mr. WEST RUSSELLasked the Minister of Labour the number of persons at present directly engaged in the Tyneside area on work on all schemes approved on or after 1st June, 1929, and the cost of these schemes?
§ Miss BONDFIELDReturns received show that on 19th December, 1930, there were 1,458 men directly employed on State-assisted schemes then in operation in the Tyneside area, which had been approved since 1st June, 1929. The cost of the schemes is estimated at approximately £800,000.
