HC Deb 26 February 1931 vol 248 c2313W

asked the Minister of Health whether he will consider the desirability, as a measure of public economy and in view of the fall in the public acceptance of vaccination, of abolishing the positions of public vaccinator and vaccination officer and adding these duties to those of district medical officers and registrars of births and deaths, respectively?

Public vaccinators and vaccination officers are statutory officers and their office could not be abolished without fresh legislation. The appointment of these officers has only recently been transferred to the local health authorities, and I do not propose to consider the question of introducing any such legislation until those authorities have had more experience of their new duties. I may add, however, that under present conditions the appointments in question may be held jointly with other offices, such as those mentioned in the question.
