§ Sir N. GRATTAN-DOYLEasked the Home Secretary whether it has now become the established practice to expedite the promotion of inspectors and chief inspectors of the criminal investigation department by retransferring them to the uniformed branch of the Metropolitan police as superintendents?
§ Mr. CLYNESOne chief inspector in the criminal investigation department has recently been promoted to the rank of superintendent and placed in charge of a division. The uniform branch and the criminal investigation department are parts of the same force, and the Commissioner holds the view, which I share, that there should be no bar to transfer from one branch to the other in suitable cases.
