§ Sir K. WOODasked the Minister of Health whether, for the forthcoming financial year, the Metropolitan Borough of Woolwich will be a losing or a gaining borough under the provisions of the Local Government Act, 1929; and the sum that has been provisionally approved under Section 100 of the Act, and how this compares with the sum so approved for the year 1930–31?
§ Mr. GREENWOODAccording to the latest available information, based on figures for the standard year 1928–29, each of the three separately rated areas comprised in the Metropolitan Borough of Woolwich "gains" as a result of the operation of Parts I, V and VI (apart from Section 100) of the Act. The aggregate gain of those areas, apart from Section 100, is approximately £9,150, and it is estimated that of this amount the sum of £3,250 falls to be applied, for each of the years 1930–31 and 1931–32, in reduction of the losses of the areas in London as respects which a loss is disclosed, in accordance with the provisions of that Section. These figures are provisional, in as much as some of the factors required for the purposes of the calculations under the Act have not yet been finally determined. The comparable figures, as estimated early in 1930, were £8,300 and £3,089 respectively.
§ Sir K. WOODasked the Minister of Health whether he has now examined certain financial statements submitted to him by the Woolwich Borough Council in 619W relation to the effects of the Local Government Act upon the finances of the borough; and when he proposes to make a reply to the council?
§ Mr. GREENWOODThe financial statements referred to have been examined, and a reply will shortly be sent to the council.
