HC Deb 20 April 1931 vol 251 c630W
Mr. MILLS

asked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the extent of unemployment, she will order the immediate cessation of overtime on all Government contracts; and whether she will consider legislation limiting overtime by penalties excepting where breakdowns occur in industrial plant?

Mr. LAWSON

With regard to the first part of the question, my right hon. Friend will bring the point to the notice of the various contracting departments with a view to such action as may be practicable. With regard to the second part of the question, the Hours of Industrial Employment Bill makes provision for the limitation of overtime and for extra payment for overtime when worked.
