§ Commander SOUTHBYasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether his attention has been called to the case of Mr. C. Pope, of 1, Croydon Road, Banstead, Surrey, an office keeper in his Department, who has been called upon to retire on 31st December, having attained the age of 60 on 27th April last, after 43 years' service to his country; whether he is aware that this man served in the South African War and that his six sons served in the Great War, five of them overseas; and whether he will take steps to have this man's case reconsidered in view of the fact that he is to be replaced by a man older than himself.
§ Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCEMr. Pope is office keeper in the Department of the Treasury Solicitor. I have caused inquiries to be made into his case, and I can hold out no hope of a reconsideration of the decision referred to by the hon. Member, which has been reached after very careful consideration of all the relevant circumstances.
