HC Deb 12 May 1930 vol 238 cc1455-6W
Mr. MARLEY

asked the Secretary of State for India whether the Government of India have issued any instructions to provincial Governments with regard to the prosecution of offenders engaged in civil disobedience; and, if so, what is the nature of the instructions?

Mr. BENN

The Government of India have been, and are, in constant touch with the provincial Governments on these matters. Action is to be taken against offenders under the ordinary law; and in the maintenance of public quiet such legal powers are exercised as are requisite and appropriate.
