HC Deb 07 May 1930 vol 238 cc980-1W
Sir N. GRATTAN-DOYLE

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether, in the estimated expenditure of £37,100 for the year 1930–31 on the housing estates under his management, provision is made towards the replacement of capital expended and interest charges on it and, if so, of what amounts, respectively?

Mr. LANSBURY

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative, and the second part therefore does not arise.

Sir N. GRATTAN-DOYLE

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether, in respect of a convenient recent date, any tenants of houses on housing estates under his management were in arrears of rent; and, if so, what was the total amount of arrears in respect of each estate?

Mr. LANSBURY

The arrears of sitting and late tenants on the 31st March, 1930, amounted to—

£
Alexandria 208
Roosegate 1,869
Birtley 5,055
Inchinnan 24
Scotswood 1,417
Bostall 30
Shepherd's Farm 46
Total £8,649

These arrears, which were accumulated over a considerable period of years, are now being steadily and satisfactorily reduced.
