HC Deb 05 May 1930 vol 238 cc656-8W
Captain CAZALET

asked the Solicitor-General if he will state the number of solicitors convicted of fraudulent conversion of clients' property for the period 1st January to 1st May, 1930; and whether he has yet decided with the Law Society upon methods calculated to protect the public against losses by fraud by convicted solicitors in future?

The SOLICITOR-GENERAL

I am informed that six solicitors have been convicted of fraudulent conversion during the period mentioned. The second part of the question rests primarily with the Law Society. I am satisfied that they recognise their responsibility and that the council of the society are making every effort to prepare a satisfactory scheme and are in discussion with the Provincial Law Societies upon a draft Bill designed for the purpose. They are in close communication with my Noble Friend the Lord Chancellor on the subject.
