§ Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCEThe grant of £500,000 to the Development Fund is to be issued in instalments as and when required. A sum of £200,000 on account of the grant is included in the Estimates of the Development Fund for the financial year ending 31st March, 1931. The following is a list of the advances (grants and loans) which have already been recommended by the Development Commissioners and approved by the Treasury and will in due course be charged against the grant of £500,000:
£ Agricultural Research and Education— Rebuilding of the Royal Veterinary College 65,000* Cambridge Department of Animal Pathology: Extension of laboratory 4,250 Rothamsted Experimental Station: Improvement of farm and farm buildings 1,700 Development of the cultivation of flax 17,250 Rural Development— Loans for village halls 20,000 Harbour Works— Grab dredger for the Fishery Board for Scotland 10,600 Anstruther 10,500 Buckie 38,000 Fraserburgh 11,980 Peterhead 25,000 Fisheries Research— Motor boat for the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries 2,000 * In addition to £35,000 sanctioned previously. A number of other schemes which may involve advances from the grant are under consideration.
