§ Mr. SHORTThe published lists show that 1,393 certificates of naturalisation were granted in 1928 and, as my right 67W hon. Friend stated on 27th February, the list for 1929 will show that 1,149 certificates were granted in that year. The refusals Were 216 and 186, respectively. My right hon. Friend regrets he is unable to give figures as to the cases under consideration, which include many surviving from previous years and the balance of 1,498 and 1,641 applications in 1928 and 1929.
