§ Sir R. GOWERasked the First Lord of the Admiralty if the reductions in the 1928–29 and the 1929–30 naval shipbuilding programme will result in less money being paid in wages at the Royal Naval dockyard at Chatham during the period which would have been covered by the original construction programmes?
Mr. ALEXANDERIt is not possible to answer this question, since the amount of money available to be paid in wages during the period covered by the programmes of 1928 and 1929 would necessarily depend on various factors not capable of being determined in advance and not only on the shipbuilding programmes.
