§ Mr. MANDERasked the Prime Minister whether it is the intention of the Government to introduce legislation, in accordance with Part I of the final Report of the Royal Commission on National Museums and Galleries, making it possible for the trustees of the National Gallery and other institutions to make loans of works of art overseas, in order that we may be in a position to make some return for the recent loans of the kind made to this country by Italy and other countries?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI would refer the hon. Member to the reply on this subject given by the Financial Secretary to the Treasury to the hon. and gallant Member for Chippenham (Captain Cazalet) in the House of Commons on the 25th ultimo. I hope shortly to receive the recommendations of the trustees of the British Museum. The Government will then consider the question of legislation.
