§ Mr. LAWSONThe number of women on the registers of Employment Exchanges in the County of Lanarkshire on 14th July was 18,117. Direct employment is not afforded for women by schemes assisted by the Unemployment Grants Committee. Employment for women has no doubt been afforded indirectly by such schemes but the numbers cannot he ascertained.

§ Mr. LAWSONThe total number of persons on the register of Employment Exchanges in the County of Lanarkshire on 14th July, was 107,742. The number of men in this area for whom work has been provided by State-aided schemes is not immediately available, but I will write to my hon. Friend when my inquiries have been completed.
